Patients receiving the greatest benefit from this screening are those who have atypical symptoms and are of intermediate risk of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). These patients will typically have multiple risk factors and/or a strong family history. Some of the risk factors of CAD are:

  • high blood cholesterol level

  • family history of heart attack

  • diabetes

  • high blood pressure

  • cigarette smoking

  • overweight or obese

  • physical inactivity

The Cardiac CTA is very useful for ruling out stenosis, identifying anatomy (anomalous vessels etc), and assessing plaque burden (including soft plaque).
